On June 6, 1944—the date we we now remember as D-Day—nearly 133,000 troops from the United States and its allies landed on the shores of Normandy, France. By the end of the month, more than 850,000 troops and personnel, 148,000 vehicles, and 570,000 tons of supplies had landed, making it the largest amphibious invasion in military history.

Designed in the United States, these “Battle of Normandy” coins commemorate one of the most significant events in our nation's history. Presented in .9999 pure (24-karat) gold, these coins feature three distinct levels of relief, each with its own finish: proof, frosted, or polished. Their stunning imagery have been rendered in exquisite detail thanks to CIT’s microminting technology and Mayer Mint's world-class striking facility.

This set includes three coins: 1 oz. gold, 1/4 oz. gold, and 1/10 oz. gold. All three coins are government-issued official legal tender backed for their gold weight, content, and purity.† In addition, all three coins are graded near-perfect PR-69 or flawless museum-quality PR-70 by PCGS and designated "First Day of Issue," certifying that these coins were purchased and received by PCGS for grading and certification within 24 hours of their release.

History of the World War II: Valor & Victory Series Battle of Normandy Gold 3-Coin Set

Designed and crafted under the guidance of two former Directors of the United States Mint, this series commemorates some of the most significant battles and events of World War II.

From the attack on Pearl Harbor that launched the United States into the war to victory at sea during the Battle of Midway, the bravery of the soldiers who stormed the beaches of Normandy on D-Day, and the iconic victory at the Battle of Iwo Jima, the four designs of the World War II: Valor & Victory Series pay tribute to the heroes who served their nation and protected the free world through their honor and sacrifice.

The World War II: Valor & Victory Series Battle of Normandy Coin Design

THE BATTLE OF NORMANDY SILVER COIN OBVERSE DESIGN

The obverse features part of Les Braves (The Braves), a monument located in Vierville-sur-Mer on Omaha Beach itself, sculpted by Anilore Banon in honor of the 60th anniversary of D-Day. Inscriptions include “MONUMENT LES BRAVES” and the coin’s weight, purity, legal-tender denomination, and nation of issue.

Inscriptions include “CHARLES III,” which is paired with a miniature device King Charles III's official portrait, “COOK ISLANDS” to denote the coin’s nation of issue; the coin’s gold weight and purity; the coin’s monetary denomination (Cook Island Dollars); “MONUMENT LES BRAVES;” and "6 JUNE 1944," the date of the Normandy landings (D-Day).

THE BATTLE OF NORMANDY SILVER COIN REVERSE DESIGN

The reverse features an interpretation of Taxis to Hell – and Back – Into the Jaws of Death, a photograph taken on June 6, 1944 by U.S. Coast Guard chief petty officer and chief photographer’s mate Robert F. Sargent. It depicts soldiers disembarking from a Coast Guard-manned landing craft—nicknamed a “taxi”—at Omaha Beach during the Normandy landings.

Inscriptions include “BATTLE OF NORMANDY,” "D-DAY," and the year of issue presented in Roman numerals (MMXXIV).
