Navigating an Unstable Global Outlook—Why Gold Matters More Than Ever

In the latest episode of America’s Gold Authority® Podcast, host Remmy Castillo sits down with three experts—Philip Diehl, former U.S. Mint Director and former Chief of Staff at the U.S. Treasury; Brad Chastain, Director of Education at U.S. Money Reserve; and Sales Director Patrick Brunson—to break down the complex geopolitical and economic forces shaping today’s financial landscape—and why gold continues to stand out as a critical asset.

Global Tensions Fueling Market Uncertainty

The panel explores rising global instability stemming from multiple geopolitical flashpoints: Russia’s war in Ukraine, the Israel–Hamas conflict, and tensions between China and Taiwan. These ongoing developments aren’t just political headlines—they’re also impacting global markets, investor confidence, and driving historic rallies in gold prices.

Philip points out that gold’s recent surge of nearly $600 per ounce began immediately after the October 7, 2023, Hamas attack on Israel. The continued rise of gold prices has been fueled by war escalation, inflation concerns, and shifting interest rate policies. With some forecasting gold prices reaching $3,300 in 2025, Philip says, “We’re not done yet.”

“Am I Too Late?”: The Question on Everyone’s Mind

According to Patrick, many of the Americans calling U.S. Money Reserve wonder if they’ve missed the boat on securing gold before prices peak. But he and Philip agree: it’s not too late—especially for those looking at gold as a long-term store of wealth. “People [asked] the same thing 10 years ago when gold hit $1,300,” says Patrick. “They’ll be [asking] it again 10 years from now.”

The China Factor

The discussion also delves deep into China’s economic vulnerabilities, including excessive debt (possibly over 300% of GDP), a real estate crisis, and an aging population. Despite attempts to project economic dominance, panelists argue the yuan is far from being a serious rival to the U.S. dollar.

However, China is making moves. The country continues to accumulate gold, likely as a hedge against potential U.S. sanctions and dollar weaponization, especially in the event of a Taiwan invasion.

BRICS and the Push for Dollar Alternatives

The panel also examines the growing interest in the BRICS alliance (Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa) as a response to Western-led financial systems. While BRICS may not dethrone the dollar any time soon, their goal is to conduct more trade using their own currencies—possibly even creating a new gold-backed asset in the future.

Regardless of whether a new gold-backed currency materializes, central banks around the world—especially those of China, Turkey, and Poland—are increasing their gold holdings at a record pace. According to Philip, if China were to begin raising its gold reserves to the international average, that level of demand would massively impact the gold market.

U.S. Banking Risks and Consumer Confidence

The conversation also touches on concerns at home. Bank consolidation has shrunk the number of U.S. banks from over 14,000 in 1984 to fewer than 5,000 today. With trust in banks and the FDIC declining, consumers are increasingly turning to physical gold for financial security.

Patrick notes: “People aren’t sure they can trust what they’re being told anymore. That’s why gold is gaining renewed attention as a real, tangible asset.”

Final Thoughts: How to Protect Yourself

The experts agree—today’s global and domestic challenges call for financial diversification. While traditional stocks and bonds still have a place, gold offers a layer of protection that paper assets and digital systems can’t match.
